New Stupidity Epidemic

The County Commission for Pinellas Florida has recently voted to end water flourination. The reason is that the local Tea Partiers have, in addition to all their other stupid notions, are now launching a war against flourination. Back in the 1950's ultra-right crackpots were fond of claiming that flourination was some kind of "communist" conspiracy to turn "our brains to jelly." The real "jelly brains" are the old paleo-conservatives and their Tea Party successors, who exhibit a stubborn and aggressive ignorance. An ignoramus with a cause is a dangerous thing.

Army of Psychopaths

More horrors from the latest GOP candidate debate, this one sponsored by the so-called Tea Party. Wolf Blitzer, the moderator, asked Ron Paul to clarify his position that the government has no responsibility toward people without health insurance. When Blitzer asked Paul if people without insurance should be allowed to die, some members of the audience apparently cheered at the statement.

It's clear by now that most Tea Partiers hate everybody but to cheer somebody else's death rises to what might be called depraved indifference. I'm reminded of the clinical definition of a psychopath: lack of empathy, shallow emotions, poor behavior control, remorselessness, and grandiosity. These qualities seem to be common amongst many Tea Partiers as well. Remeber the line from the Pogo comic strip, "The Enemy is Us?" I hate to think that the enemy is us, but many of our neighbors maybe be psychopaths, since psychos have the ability to pass themselves off as "normal" people. Until they pick up a gun and go on a shooting spree at a school or a shopping mall.

George Will Goes Primitive

George Will, the right-wing "pundit" turned shill, formerly used the term "primitivism" to refer to the backwoods, ultra-right wing yokels from button-down East coast conservatives such as himself. Will's downfall came after 2001 when he became a Bushie sycophant of the worst order.

Will's descent into imbecile status is shown by his recent editorials "Why Liberals Love Trains," in which he argues that the Obama administrations promotion of railroads is really a conspiracy to impose "collectivism" on Americans. Following this sort of "logic" New York City, should tear up the commuter rail lines that connect it to Long Island and New Jersey. Why should the center of global capitalism have to rely on a "collectivist" form of travel?

This article demonstrates the problem that East Coast conservatives face in trying to pander to the ignorance and stupidity of the so-called Tea Party. We all know that hanging out with losers turns you into a loser. Will shows that hanging out with idiots turns you into an idiot.

The Tea Party Is Dead

Yes, the Tea Party is dead. Maybe it will live on as a slogan into the 2012 election cycle. But what is dead is the idea of the Tea Party as an uprising of good hardworking Americans against "big government" and "socialism." Case in point is the Congressional Tea Party Caucus, who have actually voted themselves one billion dollars in earmarks. The Tea Party has basically become another special interest group who are against government spending--except for themselves.

The Tea Party's Sugardaddies

It turns out that the Tea Party and various right-wing think tanks are being backed funded by a couple of billionaire oil tycoons. Charles and David Kock (pronounced "coke") own Koch Industries a conglomerate based in Wichita Kansas with an estimated income of 100 billion dollars. The Kochs own oil refineries in Alaska, Texas, and Minnesota, as well as pipelines, and also Brawny paper towels, Dixie Cups, Georgia pacific lumber, and Stainmaster carpets.

The Kochs are funding groups with names like "Americans for Prosperity" which promote a pro-corporate agenda of low taxes and less regulation. The Kochs are also deniers of global warming, funding groups like the Cato Institute which spew out denyer propaganda.

Koch Industries has a record of negligence and malice. It has been found guilty of more than three hundred oil spills. It has also been found liable for the deaths of two Texas teenagers in a gas pipeline explosion.



There you have it folks. The Tea Party, far from being a grassroots movement, is really just "astroturf," funded by billionairs like the Koch's, so they can continue to pollute and make tons of cash. The Koch's are not only bad for democracy, they are a menace to life on the planet.

Tea Party: More Noise Than Heat

Looking at the "Tea Party" is like watching a bunch of spoiled children. Their combination of ignorance and hysteria has ceased to be funny and is merely irritating. These people know nothing of politics or history, their thinking is dominated by junk information and slogans from the 1980's or the 1950's of the 1920's. To say nothing of their whining about wanting "their country back."

Let us consider, however, what would happen if the Repubs take control of the Congress after the next elections. We already know what their game plan was during 1994-2006: get elected by ranting against taxes and "wasteful spending." Then get re-elected by sending pork-barrel projects back to their home districts. It may be "smart" politics, for a while. But given that it's clear that the Repubs are never going to cut spending or bring back the "good old days" of "rugged individualism."

It's time to grow up people. Or at least grow a brain.
